During this time of year we often focus on the task at hand, whether it be filing the tax return or completing the financial statements. Sometimes we overlook the fact that it is "raining" with opportunities all around us.  Here are six steps that should help you to identify and focus on those opportunities in order to create your very own May flowers:

Step 1:

Take time during interactions with your clients to focus and listen about the current challenges they are facing today.

Step 2:

From those conversations, generate a list of potential projects or opportunities that you or your firm may be able to assist your clients with.

Step 3:

Schedule a team meeting shortly after busy season to compile and prioritize your list with others within the firm.  Focus on the most qualified opportunities first.

Step 4:

Work the projects as a team. Look for opportunities to create synergies or efficiencies in the way you deliver the service. Create a sense of ownership and responsibility amongst your team members.

Step 5:

Schedule a time to meet with your client and discuss how your firm can help.  Ask your client to engage you in a project with a specific deliverable, timeline and fee.

Step 6:

Involve lower level staff.  These projects present excellent opportunities to train and keep your staff engaged after busy season.

Lastly, as we approach the April 15th deadline, remember the Firm Foundation team is here to help you.  Please don't hesitate to call us for technical assistance, industry expertise or other needs or opportunities you may have with clients.  And remember, you don't have to reinvent the wheel – utilize our help desk and see if we can save you time.

Our team has been working on a number of initiatives over the past couple of months.  We are looking forward to increased interaction with you post busy season.

Best Wishes,

Dean
